PLU: Background & Mission
The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) originated from the MK Movement, which was launched in April 2022 by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba
In February 2024, the MK Movement was officially rebranded as the PLU and declared a civic organization .
PLU aims to “revive Ugandans’ spirit of good citizenship, national pride, national service, protection of vulnerable persons, combating corruption and wastage of public resources, and protection of the environment.” Its objectives are framed as essential for the “independence, sovereignty, and development of Uganda” .
The movement emphasizes being non-partisan, non-denominational, and non-sectarian, offering civic mobilization and support for national unity and peace rather than formal political party affiliation .
